The Insanity Of Selling in Chat!!
The Insanity Of Selling in Chat
CHAT IS "BROKEN" IN GUILDWARS.
No matter what town you go to in Either Chapter, you see one thing in common.
The Players Are SCREAMING FOR A WAY TO SELL TO EACH OTHER!
At Prices Of there own Choosing! IN GAME
THIS HAS GOTTON SHARPLY WORSE WITH THE NEW RELEASE OF FACTIONS!
Everyone knows Sell High Buy Low (and they GOUGE WHEN THEY CAN)
Some Check Price Quotes Online at guru... many just make up a price!
The Unknown Variable of VALUE is HORRIABLE (its almost as bad as the "sell to merchant" price)
The alternatives are a little cumbersome and Semi effective
I have guru auction setup... but unless your selling Victos corpse himself..
Your SOL.
The user base mabey isint large enough ...and non-PERFECT stuff doesn’t sell well from what I have experienced. (Although it’s a great idea, and allot of work went into it)
IT DOSENT SOLVE THE REAL PROBLEM!
"The Players Are SCREAMING FOR A WAY TO SELL TO EACH OTHER!
At Prices Of there own choosing! IN GAME"
But...
I have the Beginnings of a solution! (Feel free to help tweak it)
WHAT IF?
What if Each Player Got say 4 - 8 "Sell Slots"
What if there were a NEW TYPE OF MERCHENT / TRADER! in every zone
Who’s Function Was to List the FIXED number of "sell slots" Items from each player currently in Said "ZONE" for a PRICE PRESET BY THE PLAYER SELLING!
This Merchant Could Say Charge a small fee to list your "X" items for "XX" period of time.
SO .. Players can go to "new merchant" and SEE all the SUPER COOL GODLY NETO STUFF that was previously crammed down your eyeballs in chat!
They can See the Image of the item..
They can see the Stats...
They can See the price set by seller ...
They can See Average going price compared to Sellers offer (explained below)
They can Take or Leave Item at will...
They can instantly BUY... VIA "BUY BUTTON" (auto selling and UNLISTING item)
Now this presents a Unique Opportunity for A-net
Until now...player to player sales ...have gone Largely UNTRACKED
The "system" , has had no way to "monitor" the current trading value of items amongst PLAYERS ...quantity, price, frequency are all UNKNOWNS
Unless "THEY" are watching the insanity "they" call chat ...(doubtful)
This is a way to have an "average going price" "BASED ON REAL DATA"
IN REAL TIME.
You would know what the STACKS OF 250 WOOD sold at "AVERAGE over time"
Or how much BULWARKS are TRADING AT.
Without prices being fluctuated by fools selling at "WAY off prices"
Now that only applies to SOLID ITEMS
SOLID ITEMS being ...Greens, Mods , Runes , Materials, PERFECTS (i.e. things without VARIABLES)
the Variable Stuff I don’t see how any system can evaluate
Non Perfects (Gold’s) (Purples) (Blues) would have to be AS IS without AVERAGE QUOTE and based on SELLERS REQUEST ALONE (I would think)
Although...A-net may be able to solve that..If they put there well paid people to the test...(they have REAL degrees right?)
ANY HOW ...I plan to submit this to anet
But would like feed back from other players and guru users!
A MILLION GUILDIE MARCH ON THERE EMAIL BOX MIGHT BE GOOD...

I'm not sure what your suggesting, but I feel that an auction house would be the best option. And there is at least one detailed proposal for an auction house in this section of these forums, but I can't seem to find it with search.
As for crafting materiles, we do have the traders to handle their prices. Same with runes and dyes. Adding a similar trader for other "SOLID ITEMS" as you call them wouldn't be that much work on ANETs part, as they should be able to modify the code for the current ones to work with others, and would improve things greatly (after a month or two for them to build up a stock).
Currently I haven't seen any proposal that is better IMO than the combination of an in-game auction system and the addition of traders (depending on how the auction system is setup, the traders could lessen the load on the guild wars servers)

well, im sure your post would work better if you didn't shout, use bold, use quotes, use quotes and bold, and just said what your suggestion was flat out. You look like a typical GW trader to me...
confused, so I wont sign...

Wow that post reminds me of an infomercial.
There have been many suggestions to improve the trade system in game. The best being submitting items into an auction house of sorts then people go on to see what is being sold, offer a price (submit gold). The person selling the item then picks the person offering the most, both accept the transaction and the item gets swapped for the gold. Both people don't even have to be on at the same time. A silent auction. Of course that is only an option and if you think that you could get more if people saw what others are offering then you could have a regular auction.

Judging by the ridiculous starting prices of items in the sell/high end and on the auction system I'm not quite sure an auction house in game would be any better. Players would still have to set their own starting prices and reserves which, lets face it, most haven't the first clue about.

Don't think auction house, think broker. (I.e. no bidding.) EVE Online is an example of a working player economy with no spam. It's not perfect, but it is lightyears (*cough*) ahead of GW in that regard.
There have been a zillion posts on this since release...

Next time, please make your message easier to read.
I'm pretty sure Anet keeps detailed records and monitors every transaction in this game. That's the only way to catch ebayers.
I agree with most people here, create an auction house, which is supposedly in the works, and won't be tied to a specific chapter.

Only fix for the "chat" is user configurable chat filter that filters wtb/wts out, and onto trade channel.
Why user configurable? If it's hardcoded, people just change their wtb/wts to something else.
That's entirely different suggestion tho, and think there's couple of those around.

Yeah...get that auction house working before chapter 3. No one likes spaming WTS instead of actually playing the game.

Personally I dont see the reason for both a starting price, and a hidden reserve for the auction system. Just stick with a minimum price
If they are too high, then the item doesn't sell. I started using the gwonline auction system with no idea of what would sell, switching to the guru one when it went live. I managed to quickly figure out what would sell and what wouldn't by simply noting which of my auctions didn't sell. I operate by seting a min price as slightly above merchant value (for greens I set the price at about half what a price list says) because I still have no clue what an item will be worth
